Filed under: Spy Photos , Hybrid , Sedan , Toyota Toyota was busy introducing all flavors of the 2012 Toyota Camry to the media earlier this week, but since all that stuff’s embargoed, there’s not much to tell. Yet. But what isn’t under embargo is this collection of spy photos showing the 2012 Camry Hybrid in its birthday suit while shooting a television commercial. The new Camry’s familiar roofline communicates practicality overall, but the updated sheetmetal has more crisp lines, with new fascias fore and aft. The hybrid’s grille treatment apes that of the facelifted Highlander Hybrid , and yes, those headlights are indeed the ones Akio Toyoda teased a few weeks ago. In a nutshell, it’s still a conservative look, but decidedly less frumpy than before. Now, let’s see what changes Toyota’s made below the surface to bring the Camry in line with the current midsize family-sedan competition. Filed under: Truck , Toyota Toyota is reportedly working on a refresh for its Tacoma mid-size pickup, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal . The refreshed Taco will debut in October, as part of the automaker’s plan to debut many all-new or refreshed vehicles this year. In addition to the Tacoma, the Camry and Yaris will also receive substantial overhauls for the new model year. Bob Carter, group vice president and brand manager for Toyota, says that the 2012 Tacoma will keep the same engine and frame, but will have a new exterior design, as well as an updated interior. Currently, the Tacoma is powered by a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, Carter states that the Tacoma will receive new entertainment functions, and as we reported earlier , the automaker’s new Entune infotainment system will be part of the offerings. We’ll have more details come October. Toyota Tacoma to receive nip/tuck this fall originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 28 Jul 2011 19:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink
Filed under: Aftermarket , Scion , Toyota Nasko Vilner is the Bulgarian tuner best known for reworking interiors into luxurious cabins fit for a king. Vilner’s latest creation, however, is best fit for a king living in the city. The Vilner iQ forgoes the cloth seats of its plebeian Toyota and Scion counterparts, and instead, the front thrones of the Vilner iQ are wrapped in Napa leather while the rest of the interior is covered in Alcantara. Certainly this begs the simple question, “Why?” Occasionally, as Vilner knows, that question can simply be answered, “Why not?” Check out more of the Vilner iQ in the attached gallery. Filed under: Concept Cars , Crossover , Honda , Toyota It’s an unfortunate reality of automotive transportation, but accidents are all too common. This one, however, appears to be anything but. While merging onto California’s legendary Pacific Coast Highway, one motorist/blogger was hit by another car. What makes the incident a little more out-of-the-ordinary is the vehicle that hit the blogger: the motorist in question was struck by a test mule for the new 2012 Honda CR-V , still wearing prototype camouflage and everything. Given that the impacted CUV – which subsequently collided with several more oncoming vehicles – was a Toyota Highlander , and that a Lexus RX (whose platform it incidentally shares) was also part of the pileup, a small part of us can’t help wonder if the Toyota vs. Honda rivalry hadn’t spilled over from the Japanese boardrooms and dealer lots onto the streets of California. Thankfully, everybody appears to be okay, if a bit shaken up. Filed under: Hybrid , Europe , Technology , Hatchback , Toyota , Electric With the Toyota Prius plug-in set to launch in early 2012 , now’s the perfect time to dive into the interim results from the cars’ trials in London. Here are some details straight from Toyota : Average journey distance has been 7.3 miles, with 59 percent of all journeys covering between 3.1 and 12.4 miles Average speed has been 17.7 miles per hour, with 69 percent of journeys at speeds less than 18.6 mph Initial fuel consumption data indicates performance is 27 percent better than an equivalent diesel Average recharging time is 72 minutes Where drivers have access to a domestic charge point, more frequent recharging occurs Twenty-two percent of drivers have even been able to drive further than the official 12.5-mile range in EV mode. Electric-powered driving so far has accounted for one third of all miles driven in the PHEV demonstration. Working in partnership with EDF Energy, Toyota leased 20 third-generation Prius plug-ins to London-based businesses and organizations to monitor vehicle performance and recharging patterns. Details of journey times, speeds, distances, fuel usage and recharging habits have been logged and analyzed to compile useable data. The three-year trial kicked off last summer, meaning that these interim results are from less than one year of real-world use. Filed under: Spy Photos , Sedan , Toyota Toyota says big things are in store for the redesigned 2012 Camry , and the vehicle is nearly ready to show its face to the world. The mid-sized sedan isn’t quite ready yet, however, and our spy photographers have captured the camo-wearing four-doors making their way around the desert. We’ve been promised a more dynamic looking Camry the next time out, and the angles cut around the nose look sharper than recent generations. Still, it’s just speculation at this point, because that camouflage is doing a pretty good job of hiding what lies beneath. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too much longer to see the updated sedan, as it’s slated to hit dealer lots this fall. 2012 Toyota Camry closer to revealing new look originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 11:30:00 EST.
