These new images give us a better idea of what the CUV will look like inside and out. While we’re told full details will be released tomorrow, word has it the RAV4 will make use of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 178 horsepower, though buyers may also be able to opt for a 3.5-liter V6 good for 268 hp. A six-speed automatic transmission is a likely choice for gear-swapping duties, and while base models will feature a front-wheel-drive configuration, all-wheel drive will also be available. Yesterday, a spokesperson with Toyota said the company could neither confirm nor deny the validity of leaked RAV4 images. We’re guessing the company will hold that line right up until the press conference at the 2012 LA Auto show . Filed under: Car Buying , China , Europe , Chrysler , Honda , Toyota , Volkswagen , Fiat Automotive News has announced its annual list of Industry All-Stars. This year, the theme is apparently “success in the face of economic uncertainty,” or something of that liking. The list points to executives who have led their respective brands and automakers to positive sales in spite of the European financial crisis and slowing sales in China . See the list below, and you’ll understand why: Industry Leader of the Year and CEO, Europe – Martin Winterkorn, CEO, Volkswagen Group (above): The VW boss started with the German automaker in 2007, overseeing a staggering 12 brands. Under his leadership, sales of Volkswagens have gained in both China and America. VW has also expanded production to America and grown its operations in Brazil. Winterkorn is a very hands-on executive, traveling to America six times to test and tweak the American-built current-generation Passat. Volkswagen is aiming to be the largest and most profitable automaker in the wold by 2018, and Winterkorn will stay on through that time, making him accountable for those goals. CEO, North America – Sergio Marchionne, CEO, Chrysler Group: How does 31 straight months of positive year-over-year sales sound? The Fiat and Chrysler chief has bestowed dealers with a wealth of new product, and the American automaker is expected to post $1.5 billion in profits this year, in spite of economic turmoil in Europe.

Filed under: LA Auto Show , Crossover , Toyota Toyota , after a week of refusing to confirm or deny the validity of leaked RAV4 images , rolled out its all-new compact crossover under the lights of the LA Auto Show today. And, as is often the case in this industry, the real deal looks just like it did in those unconfirmed pictures. Yet there was more to learn than just confirming its new styling. As many suspected, Toyota will no longer offer six-cylinder power for the RAV4. The automaker announced that the standard powerplant will be a 2.5-liter four-cylinder (rated at 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque) mated to a new six-speed automatic. Consumers will again be offered a choice between front- and all-wheel drive. Fuel economy estimates are 24 mpg city/31 highway (FWD) and 22 mpg city/29 mpg (AWD). Some other notable details include the elimination of the RAV4′s side-hinged rear door and signature spare tire. It has been replaced with a rear liftgate (a space-saver spare is now stored beneath the cargo floor) to improve convenience and space. Standard features on all models include a Display Audio with a 6.1-inch LCD touchscreen (with backup camera and Bluetooth connectivity), privacy glass and full power accessories.

Toyota issues recall for 150K Tacoma pickups over possible spare tire trouble

Filed under: Truck , Recalls , Safety , Toyota Toyota has initiated a recall of its Tacoma pick-up from the 2001 to 2004 model years, with up to 150,000 units affected. Tacomas sold in 20 snowbelt states and the District of Columbia could have an issue with the lift plate on their spare tire carrier, which is a piece of metal that helps raise the emergency spare wheel located at the back and underneath the truck. The plate might not have been properly coated with anticorrosion protection, and this could lead to the plate corroding on trucks driven in states that use salt on the roads during the winter. A lift plate failure could lead to the spare tire coming loose and causing an accident. Toyota is working on a remedy to the situation and will notify owners when it is ready. The release below from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has more information, including all of the cold-weather states in which affected trucks are registered, and indicates that the recall should begin next month. Toyota tops Kelley Blue Book’s Resale Value Awards

Filed under: Car Buying , Chevrolet , Ford , Honda , Infiniti , Jeep , Lexus , Porsche , Scion , Toyota Kelley Blue Book announced its annual Best Resale Value Award winners, and we weren’t too surprised to see the list dominated by Japanese automakers – mainly Toyota and Honda . KBB hands out the awards based on the projected residual value of mostly all 2013 model year vehicles, and Toyota skated home with a number of awards including 10 of the 22 overall categories and having five of its products in the top 10 for models with best resale value. KBB’s Best Resale Value Awards were announced in the same week as the ALG Residual Value Awards , and there were many similarities between both lists, especially when it came to Toyota. To come up with its winners, KBB measures depreciation over the first five years of ownership, and looks for the cars it expects to hold its value the best after this time; on average, the report says the 2013 model year vehicles will lose 61.8 percent of its value in five years. Of the 22 categories, 15 slots were filled by Toyota, Honda and Nissan products, while the Camaro and Porsche ( Cayenne and Panamera ) each took home a pair of awards. If Toyota has anything to be upset about in this list of cars, it’s that categories for Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car and Electric Vehicle went to the Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Volt , respectively. The overall top 10 models for the best resale value in 2013 are, in alphabetical order: Honda Civic Honda CR-V Jeep Wrangler Lexus LX Porsche Cayenne Scion tC Toyota FJ Cruiser Toyota Land Cruiser Toyota Tacoma Toyota 4Runner Scroll down to see KBB’s press release that includes a breakdown of all individual category winners.
