Filed under: Japan , Crossover , Lexus , Toyota , Luxury Japanese site CarWatch has revealed images of the next-generation Toyota Harrier , known to US and European buyers as the Lexus RX . The new model features a considerably more aggressive fascia in keeping with some of the latest Lexus design trends, while the back features a pair of wide, wraparound taillights. The profile features a revised greenhouse, with a rather complex rear window treatment, while a subtle character line connects the front and rear taillights. According to the badging, the model shown features a hybrid powertrain, although there’s little information on which engine is being used. We’d wager it’s an evolution of the same 3.5-liter V6 hybrid found in the current RX450h . This early look doesn’t have a great deal of other info, and there are no images of the interior. We’re not yet clear on how closely the North American RX will adhere to the Harrier seen here, but historically the two models have been quite close. That said, we’d expect a more prominent ‘spindle’ grille on the Lexus version than the baleen strainer on the vehicle shown here. A page on Toyota’s Japanese website says the new Harrier/RX will receive a winter 2013 debut. That makes for a difficult determination of what auto show the new CUV will arrive at.

Filed under: LA Auto Show , Videos , Crossover , Toyota We’ll get our first glimpse of the all-new 2013 Toyota RAV4 at the Los Angeles Auto Show in a couple of weeks (unless the new crossover falls victim to a case of internet leakage), and to keep our interest piqued, Toyota has released this brief teaser video for its new small CUV. There really isn’t a whole lot to be seen in the video, save a few quick glimpses of the new car including the headlight/grille shot you see above. To hear Toyota tell it, the 2013 RAV4 is “a new generation rewriting the rules of style, embodying sophistication and strength – a dynamism that adapts to the changing pace of life.” Whatever that means. We’ve spied the 2013 RAV4 on a couple of occasions now, and even in its heavily camouflaged state, we can see that its design will indeed follow that of the 2012 Camry . As for other details surrounding the new model, we don’t have anything concrete. Powertrains are expected to be of the four-cylinder variety (including a possible hybrid), and new technology like Toyota’s Entune system will likely be worked into the redesigned interior. Stay tuned for the full details at the end of November, and scroll down to watch the 40-second teaser video for yourself. Filed under: Car Buying , Crossover , Toyota , Electric Announced almost two years ago , Toyota finally gave us some more details about the was the all-electric RAV4 EV will be sold to the general public during the 26th Electric Vehicle Symposium in Los Angeles today. The important number? The MSRP for what Toyota calls a “fully equipped” RAV4 EV is $49,800 and will be available before the end of the year. Toyota says the RAV4 EV’s range is 100 miles and that the car will charge from empty in approximately six hours on a 240V/40A charger. The new RAV4 EV has LED and halogen headlights and it has special “environmental blue” color emblems on the outside. The vehicle will be made at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Inc., plant in Woodstock, Ontario. The first generation of the new RAV4 EV was unveiled back at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show . Our First Drive report is here . With a battery and powertrain designed by Tesla , the new RAV4 EV certainly appears to be one of the new breed of compliance EVs . We had heard that the RAV4 EV will be lease only, but the official press release says the car “will go on sale in late summer 2012 through select dealers, initially in four major California metropolitan markets.” Those markets are Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles/Orange County and San Diego and the news matches the rumor we heard last year, that sales about be limited to California.
