But this particular claim from the Dubai International Motor Show ought to be taken with a grain of salt. As our compatriots at AutoGuide discovered, the Facebook page for the Emirates auto expo includes a post with an interesting claim: that a sedan based on the Toyota GT86 (known in the US as the Scion FR-S ) will debut at the show. The Facebook post is accompanied by the image above, purporting to show the concept in question. The strange part is that the organizers claim the four-door GT86 concept will make its “regional unveil” at the Dubai show, which would seem to indicate that the concept in question would make its international debut at an earlier show. Considering that the doors open in Dubai on Tuesday, that seems increasingly unlikely. All of this begs the question, If this isn’t actually a four-door GT86, what might it be? Filed under: Concept Cars , Frankfurt Motor Show , Performance , Hatchback , Toyota , Racing Toyota has released a second teaser of its Hybrid-R Concept , along with an estimation of the show car’s power output. Using technology that’s “similar to that used by Toyota Racing’s TS030 Hybrid race car,” the concept is expected to deliver over 400 horsepower. The press release also mentions that the new concept is based on a current production model. While it’s difficult to tell from the sole teaser image of the car’s body, rumors are flying that it’s related to the Yaris . If that’s the case, though, it’s difficult to know what to make of this concept. The teaser image is quite dark, but we played around with the exposure and came up with an image that reveals more details about the new concept. Take a look at the related gallery , below, to see the high-exposure image. We’ll find out for certain what the Hybrid-R is in a few weeks at the Frankfurt Motor Show . Let us know what you think Toyota’s newest concept is in the comments. Filed under: Concept Cars , Geneva Motor Show , Toyota , Design/Style Just last week, your humble author had a 2013 Toyota RAV4 in his garage, and he couldn’t help noting that even in mid-level XLE trim, its aesthetics lacked oomph, due in large part to its cheap-looking black bumpers and airy-looking wheel wells . Judging by the RAV4 “Adventure” on display at the Geneva Motor Show , someone at Toyota must’ve been thinking the same thing. With Japan’s biggest automaker understandably focused on bigger reveals, information on this butched-up softroader has proven to be hard to come by, with no press materials whatsoever. We don’t even know if this is a pure concept or if it’s actually being considered for production. Either way, we approve. The 20-inch dark-finish alloys probably don’t do much for ride quality, but they certainly look nicely aggressive, as does the new lower fascia with its prominent lower lip. Other changes include beefier wheel arches, side rails, headlamps with integrated LEDs, twin-element fog lamps and mesh grille inserts. All of the changes are quite well integrated – enough so that the Adventure largely avoids looking like a SEMA refugee in person. Filed under: Concept Cars , Convertible , Performance , Geneva Motor Show , Scion , Toyota Here it is, folks – the highly anticipated Toyota FT-86 Open concept, a precursor to what could become a road-going Scion FR-S convertible. A full smattering of images and video have leaked onto the internet, and thanks to the folks at FT86Club.com , we can now see the new hotness that Toyota will be unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next week. These images confirm details that were first seen in spy shots captured a couple of weeks ago – namely, the larger wheel/tire package and the inclusion of the Toyobaru coupe’s decidedly useless rear seats. These new photos, however, show a two-tone leather interior with goodies such as an iPod/iPhone mount on the dashboard. The concept car is also fitted with the coupe’s six-speed automatic transmission (boo!) and FT86Club.com reports that the folding soft top is operated electronically. We’ll have the full details live from Geneva in just a few days. For now, click through our attached image gallery to see lots of pretty pictures of the topless wonder, and scroll down for a video to see the concept in motion. UPDATE : The news now been officially released by Toyota UK. Scroll down below to see the newly added press release, and a bit more detail about the FT-86 Open. Filed under: Concept Cars , Toyota , Design/Style , Electric Toyota is taking the tiny tandem Tango to Tron town. In a teaser video for the new i-Road , debuting at the Geneva Motor Show next week, we catch a light-bike-like glimpse of Toyota’s quirky tandem-seat concept. We still don’t know much about the vehicle itself, but the video does flash the words “fun, compact, emissions-free,” which suggests this is an electric ride. Then comes the apparent tagline: “i Roll, i Rock i Road.” An indication that the tilting image we see in the video isn’t just a special effect, perhaps? We’ll have to wait until we get to Switzerland next week to find out. Until then, you can watch the video below . In more earthly reveals, Toyota will also show off its hotly anticipate FT-86 Open sports car concept and Auris Touring Sports wagon on its Geneva show stand. Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Sedan , Videos , Toyota Toyota has announced that it will debut an all-new sedan concept, dubbed Furia, at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show next January. And while the Japanese automaker has released this video teaser as a way to whet our appetites, we don’t know a whole lot about what, exactly, is in store. So, it’s a sedan, it’s orange, it has some carbon fiber accents like the rear lip spoiler you see in the image above, and there are funky, concept car-spec lighting elements at both the front and rear. It may or may not live in fire based on the footage we see here, too. That’s all we know for now, and our best guess is that this previews some sort of new sporty sedan for the Japanese brand. (Toyota could stand to add a little excitement in its lineup, after all.) We’ll have the full details closer to the concept’s debut at the Detroit Auto Show in a few weeks. For now, scroll down to watch the Furia in full tease mode. Filed under: Concept Cars , Budget , Sedan , Hatchback , Toyota , Beijing Motor Show , Design/Style Details on the pair of Dear Qin concepts that Toyota unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show this week are sparse, but they do hint at something interesting coming to every market where the Japanese automaker sells cars. Calling them “global-strategic concepts,” Toyota says the sedan and hatchback versions of the Dear Qin models have “a design aiming to attract more people to the user base.” With that curious statement in mind, the first promotional video for the Dear Qin models (which you can watch by scrolling below ) is both language- and information-free, emphasizing the design of the cars for a global audience. With explosions and lightning, of course. Reports have said that Toyota is working on a new global, front-wheel drive model that is supposed to be launched in 2013. We can imagine these concepts foreshadowing those cars, and hope we get a pair of highly efficient compacts out of the design process. We’ll skip the explosions and lightning, though. Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Hybrid , Hatchback , Toyota Toyota has released a quick teaser video for the company’s NS4 Plug-In Hybrid Concept ahead of the vehicle’s debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show . Though less than a minute in length, the clip gives us a clear look at the vehicle’s badges as well as quick line-drawing outline. Toyota has released few details about the NS4 beyond saying the vehicle will be an “advanced plug-in hybrid.” Whether that means the vehicle will boast new battery, engine or motor technology remains to be seen. Odds are the NS4 will be used to display new design language for the entire Toyota hybrid fleet. The NS4 Plug-In Hybrid Concept will debut next week, along with the company’s Prius C ; a Yaris -sized hybrid with better fuel economy figures than the current Prius. While the model has received an unveil at the Tokyo Motor Show , we’ve yet to see the vehicle on American soil. Hit the jump to check out the NS4 Concept teaser video for yourself. Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Hybrid , Toyota , Electric Toyota is bringing a new concept to the 2012 Detroit Auto Show . The company calls its NS4 showcar an “advanced” plug-in hybrid , though it hasn’t shared any more information beyond the vehicle’s name. While we can’t say for certain, odds are the concept will give us a glimpse of what the company has planned for future hybrid design instead of boasting any tangible next-generation technology. As you may recall, Toyota and BMW recently partnered up to create a new lithium-ion battery pack, so it may be some time before we see the tech debut, even in a concept vehicle. Toyota has also made it clear the company will bring along the Prius C , which will make its North American debut at the Detroit show (see gallery below). The Prius C rides on a platform about the same size as the Yaris , but comes packing a hybrid drivetrain. Word has it the vehicle will come with Prius-besting EPA fuel economy figures, too. Hit the jump for the brief press release, and stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the Detroit show.
