The Japanese automaker rolled out the rear-drive hero with a fancy new video shot in the hills around Fujairah. With plenty of drifting , tire smoke and slow motion, the clip serves as a proper introduction to the lightweight coupe. Judging by the quick video, there are a few market-specific changes to the UAE Toyota GT 86, including the availability of one very massive rear wing. The piece has more than a passing resemblance to the exaggerated aero work found on the lusty Subaru WRX STI sedan. Will the Toyota GT 86 find favor in the UAE? We certainly think it’s got a shot. If there’s a more car-obsessed culture on this planet than the one found in the U.S., it lies in the well-funded Middle East. The luxury version of the Toyota Land Cruiser wears a new Lexus spindle grille , one that’s big enough to make Rumplestiltskin proud, and it has revised front and rear fascias among the other upgrades that Lexus says justify its 1.9-percent price increase. Among the other new-for-2013 features are an updated Crawl Control mode and terrain-select for the all-wheel-drive system, because what Lexus owner doesn’t enjoy serious rock-crawling? A new multimedia system with the next-generation Lexus Enform system is also part of the deal, which seems much more in line with real-world customer behavior, as Enform allows drivers to use Facebook and Yelp, among other services. For those LX 570 buyers who just must have it all, there’s also a $1,510 luxury package that adds some higher grade trim and features, and a backseat entertainment system for $2,005. Lexus Raises Funds for Toys for Tots as Part of December to Remember Big Red Bow Social Media Campaign

(Dec. 2, 2011) As part of its popular annual December to Remember sales event, Lexus announced today that it will donate $5 to Toys for Tots for every big red bow shared via Facebook and Twitter. The campaign ends Jan. 3, 2012, with Lexus providing a maximum donation of $100,000 for the social media fundraiser.

Filed under: Technology , Toyota , Infotainment Toyota Touch – the Euro-spec version of Entune – is gaining one more functionality in the Toyota (not Scion ) iQ : Toyota Touch Life. The system is the first to use the Car Connectivity Consortium ‘s (CCC) MirrorLink technology, which can port an exact replica of a connected smartphone’s display to the iQ’s seven-inch touchscreen. The first platform supported by Toyota Touch Life comes from Nokia – a key partner in the CCC – and its Car Mode app, which can be download from the Nokia Store for devices running Symbian Belle (which, ironically, is about to be phased out in favor of Windows Phone 7). Apple iPhone users aren’t left out of the mix and will be able to download the Application Launcher app from the App Store, allowing them to access the Garmin StreetPilot app, Stitcher radio and Facebook and Twitter integration through a clean and supposedly distraction-free interface. Next 25 Winners Announced for Toyota 100 Cars for Good Program

(June 29, 2011) – Toyota today announced the second set of 25 winners of the Toyota 100 Cars for Good program, which awards 100 vehicles over the course of 100 days to 100 deserving non-profits. Winners of the Toyota 100 Cars for Good program are determined based on voting from the public. Each day, five organizations are profiled on Toyota’s Facebook page where the public is invited to show their support by voting to determine the winning nonprofit organization.

This once-overlooked segment of vehicles has been booming lately, what with recent additions like the Ford Fiesta and Mazda2 , not to mention soon-to-be-released models like the Chevrolet Sonic , Nissan Versa , Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio . Toyota is a player in this segment, but the Yaris , isn’t exactly aging too well, but a brand new version is just around the corner. That is, if these photos from a Hungarian Toyota dealership’s Facebook page are anything to go on. This stylish new Yaris looks to be the end result of what renderings and spy shots have foretold, though it’s still unclear whether or not this is indeed the car that will be sold here in the United States – this could simply be the Euro-market Yaris. Either way, if this new hatchback is destined for consumption here in the States, we’ll likely hear about it within the coming months.
