2014 Toyota Aygo is so cross with itself

2014 Toyota Aygo is so cross with itself

Filed under: Budget , Geneva Motor Show , Europe , Hatchback , Toyota , Peugeot , Citroën It almost made it, but images of the redesigned Toyota Aygo have leaked ahead of its official debut at tomorrow’s Geneva Motor Show . The new Aygo sports an aggressive look overall with a, um, mark on its face. That distinguishing design feature aside, we quite like the angular headlights and muscular overall look of this little city car. The gaping trapezoidal air intake make the Aygo look more substantial, while swollen rear wheel arches hint at something sportier than your standard commuter device. Sportiness, though, isn’t likely to be a big part of the Aygo. As it’s built on the same platform as the Citro

Filed under: Concept Cars , Geneva Motor Show , Lamborghini , Toyota , Volkswagen , Alfa Romeo , Design/Style , McLaren We’ve returned from a very busy week in Switzerland, and in going back over all of our 75 stories from the Geneva Motor Show , our editors have gathered up their personal favorite debuts from the European expo. The wonderful thing about the Geneva show is just how wide of an array of vehicles are on display – everything from funny little one-off EVs to the most exotic of supercars to, well, truly ridiculous displays of coachbuilding . And because of that, this list of our editors’ favorites might not be as predictable as you think. But we don’t want to give anything away just yet. Scroll down to have a look at our team’s favorites from Geneva. Toyota Auris Touring Sports is a handsome Prius V alternative [w/videos]

Toyota Auris Touring Sports is a handsome Prius V alternative [w/videos]

Filed under: Hybrid , Wagon , Geneva Motor Show , Videos , Toyota , Diesel The Toyota Prius V has a lot to recommend it, but adventurous and sporty styling is not in its repertoire. That’s why this new Auris Touring Sports has our attention. Claimed to be the “first full hybrid estate car” in the compact class, this two-box Auris has genuine visual panache to go with its load-lugging capability and parsimonious fuel economy. In the metal, we think its v-shaped grille and headlamp treatment acquits itself better than it does on the new RAV4 , a model that shares its new design language. Built by Toyota UK, the Auris Touring Sports hybrid is powered by a familiar-sounding 1.8-liter gas engine paired with an electric motor, with total system output quoted at 134 horsepower. The model will also be available in a variety of gas or diesel trims if you prefer your vehicle sans electrification (a non-hybrid model is shown). It goes on sale later this year in Europe, but don’t hold your breath to see one in North America. Still interested? Scroll below to see a couple of videos and to read the official press release. Toyota RAV4 "Adventure" brings the butch

Toyota RAV4 "Adventure" brings the butch

Filed under: Concept Cars , Geneva Motor Show , Toyota , Design/Style Just last week, your humble author had a 2013 Toyota RAV4 in his garage, and he couldn’t help noting that even in mid-level XLE trim, its aesthetics lacked oomph, due in large part to its cheap-looking black bumpers and airy-looking wheel wells . Judging by the RAV4 “Adventure” on display at the Geneva Motor Show , someone at Toyota must’ve been thinking the same thing. With Japan’s biggest automaker understandably focused on bigger reveals, information on this butched-up softroader has proven to be hard to come by, with no press materials whatsoever. We don’t even know if this is a pure concept or if it’s actually being considered for production. Either way, we approve. The 20-inch dark-finish alloys probably don’t do much for ride quality, but they certainly look nicely aggressive, as does the new lower fascia with its prominent lower lip. Other changes include beefier wheel arches, side rails, headlamps with integrated LEDs, twin-element fog lamps and mesh grille inserts. All of the changes are quite well integrated – enough so that the Adventure largely avoids looking like a SEMA refugee in person.
