This marks the third year in a row that both automakers have won the Brand and Luxury Brand resale value awards. In all, Toyota won 11 categories and Lexus won seven. Honda made a good showing, as well, winning two segments ( Accord Plug-In Hybrid and Civic Si ) and putting one car on the top-10 Best Resale Value list ( CR-V ). Chevrolet did even better, winning two segments (with the V6 Camaro and the Corvette ) and placing three cars on the top-10-overall list (again, the Camaro and Corvette, plus the Silverado 1500 ). The other winners came from Jeep , Dodge , Infiniti , Subaru and Audi . To give you a clearer picture of the Toyota and Lexus domination, their 18 mentions represents more than half of the 34 awards (including the top-10-overall list). That’s because Toyota only sells it at home in Japan, and now it’s revealed a new one. So if the Harrier is essentially a Toyota-badged version of the RX, then what’s the big deal, you ask? The big deal is that the new Harrier which leaked in July, set to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show next week and which you see here isn’t quite the same as the Lexus , and those differences could (and in most cases likely will) make their way over to the RX as well. For starters, the styling is different. Granted that the Lexus version will almost certainly get a spindle-shaped grille, but even so, the Harrier’s nose seems to protrude further than the RX’s and the headlamps are a notably different shape. The greenhouse is also a different shape, coming to a sharper point at the back, and the mirrors are fixed to the A-pillar not to the door panel. The taillamps are revised, the tailgate has a new profile and there’s a pseudo-diffuser at the bottom of the rear bumper. Subtle changes, to be sure, but then Toyota and Lexus are known for their evolutionary approach to styling.

Filed under: Hybrid , Performance , BMW , Toyota , Luxury BMW and Toyota inked a partnership some time ago to develop green technology, and while we were excited by the idea of a reborn Supra with BMW’s carbon fiber reinforced plastic slashing the curb weight or an ultra-efficient, hybridized 1 Series, the joint efforts have been rather limited. That’s set to change, though, according to a report from Australia. Motoring reports that the partners have come to terms on a sports car. And not just any sports car, but a lightweight, hybridized model, with a six-figure price tag. Lending a bit of street cred to that idea is the site’s claim that Toyota is currently carrying out durability testing on the BMW i8 . According to the site, the new model will slot into the spot left by the Lexus LFA , although based on the language used, it’s unclear if this is the Tokyo-bound vehicle we mentioned several months ago . Details on this potential car are limited, although Motoring claims it will use a Toyota hybrid system mated up to a BMW gas engine – likely the 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 found in the M5 and M6 .
