Filed under: Budget , Sedan , Toyota Looks like the new, ” more emotional ” Toyota Camry designer Kevin Hunter talked about back in January is going to arrive very soon, with news that Toyota’s bread-and-butter sedan will be getting an update in just a few weeks time at the 2014 New York Auto Show . “On April 16 at the New York International Auto Show, we will make an important announcement about America’s best-selling car, the Toyota Camry,” said Curt McAllister, Toyota product news manager, in an emailed statement. Considering the high-profile nature of the NYAS – not to mention the competition that will be shown there – it makes sense that Toyota would choose to unveil something as significant as a major refresh at the Javits Center. We wish we had more to tell you than this, but unfortunately, that’s about all we’ve got to go on at this time. Of course, we’ll have much more for you during the lead up to NYAS, including any leaks of the refreshed Camry. Stay tuned. 2014 Toyota Highlander greets the world with NYC debut

2014 Toyota Highlander greets the world with NYC debut

Filed under: New York Auto Show , Hybrid , Crossover , Toyota , Design/Style Toyota has pulled the wraps off its all-new, 2014 Highlander in New York this morning, giving Americans a first look at what is sure to be a heavyweight in the mid-size crossover segment. The new third-generation Highlander will come with the buyer’s choice of three different powertrain options. The base model will be powered by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel-drive. Next up the ladder is a 3.5-liter V6, also mated to the 6AT, which can be had with either front-or all-wheel-drive. Finally, the Highlander Hybrid will be equipped with all-wheel drive, its 3.5-liter V6 mated to an electric motor, all hooked up to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The automaker has not released any specs for fuel economy or output yet, though we’re promised increases in both power and efficiency. While not a revolution in terms of styling, Toyota has cleaned up the bodywork for the new model, offering a crisp, conservative look for the slightly larger Highlander. The vehicle is some three inches longer and an inch-and-a-half wider than the outgoing model, yet it has a lower roofline. Black plastic-clad wheel arches make an attempt to butch up the crossover, though to our eyes, the Highlander still has the look of a minivan around the rear view. Inside, the most important feature of this model is that it seats eight humans.

Filed under: New York Auto Show , Coupe , Crossover , Scion , Toyota Toyota has given us a look at what the company will bring to the 2013 New York Auto Show . Visitors will get to set their eyes upon the all-new 2014 Highlander , and while the automaker isn’t saying much in the way of details, we do get the teaser you see above ( click to enlarge) to ponder on until next week. The image shows little more than a headlamp and a bit of grille, but gives us the flavor of what the crossover will bring to the table. Scion , meanwhile, says it plans to dust off the “new 2014 tC sports coupe.” While we don’t imagine the two door will have undergone a major surgery, we’re interested to see what the automaker has cooked up. The tC last endured a redesign in 2011. Check out the brief press release below and look for the vehicles to bow on March 28.Y Continue reading Toyota headed to New York with 2014 Highlander, revised Scion tC Toyota headed to New York with 2014 Highlander, revised Scion tC originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 21 Mar 2013 16:29:00 EST. Toyota confirms 2014 Highlander is in a New York state of mind

Filed under: New York Auto Show , Crossover , Toyota Toyota has confirmed that it will be showing off the all-new 2014 Highlander at the New York Auto Show later this month. It’s been a while since we’ve heard about the updated Highlander, but given just how long this thing has been on the market, we certainly hope that the list of changes will be more extensive than the new 2014 Toyota Tundra that debuted in Chicago last month. Currently, the Highlander is offered in both naturally aspirated and hybrid versions, with front- and all-wheel drive. We don’t expect the formula to change too much, since sales of the Japanese CUV are still steady – well in line with newer players in the segment like the Ford Explorer , Nissan Pathfinder and GM’s Lambda triplets ( Chevrolet Traverse , GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave ). We’ll have the full skinny on the new Highlander in the coming weeks. For now, scroll down to read Toyota’s incredibly brief press blast. Filed under: Car Buying , Etc. , Crossover , Toyota Toyota has announced official pricing on the company’s 2013 Venza . Buyers can look forward to laying down $27,700 for the refreshed crossover, excluding any destination fees. That marks an increase of $275 over last year for the base, front-wheel drive LE model equipped with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. Meanwhile, the XLE trim will carry a price tag of $29,775, or $1,585 more than the the 2012 model. Limited guise has also seen a jump of $955 to $36,465. Toyota unveiled the revised Venza at this year’s New York Auto Show , where the family hauler bowed with a redesigned front fascia marked with by a more restrained grille, new headlamp arrays and fog lamp bezels. Similarly, the Venza now wears a few updates to the sideview mirrors and tail lamps. Indoors, buyers can expect to find the cabin largely untouched, though new steering wheel buttons are along for the ride. Consumers may also opt for the company’s clever Entune phone app integration system.

Filed under: New York Auto Show , Crossover , Toyota Toyota has been teasing us with glimpses of the redesigned 2013 Venza over the last month, and now we get to see its modest makeover just before the vehicle’s New York Auto Show debut. The new, less fussy grille is the first thing you’ll notice. Fewer horizontal bars above the bumper and a chrome accent goes some way toward below classing up the crossutilitywagon thing. The headlamps are new, and the fog lights have also been blacked out with chrome accent ring. Finishing off the new light fixtures are reworked door mirrors fitted with the obligatory built-in turn signals. In back, the taillights have been slightly updated, but everything else seems to be much the same as the 2012 model. Venzas can now be ordered in Attitude Black, Cypress Pearl and Cosmic Gray Mica. Interior changes also seem to be minimal except for updated steering wheel buttons and the option of adding Toyota’s Entune package that integrates your smart phone with the vehicle’s dashboard display. The interior is also available in black for 2013. Engine choices stay the same, with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder and a 3.5-liter V6 on offer.

Toyota teases all-new Avalon ahead of New York debut

Toyota teases all-new Avalon ahead of New York debut

March 28, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Filed under: New York Auto Show , Sedan , Toyota , Design/Style , Luxury Toyota has just released a teaser image of what it says is an all-new, designed-in-America sedan that will debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show next week. It isn’t immediately clear if the vehicle will be a concept or production car, but Toyota has issued no showcar qualifiers, suggesting it’s something that will be in dealers soon. Described as having “an elegant yet athletic look,” the teased rear end most likely belongs to the next-generation Avalon full-size sedan. While we can’t be sure until the wraps are removed in New York, the Avalon is our best guess based on descriptions of the redesigned Avalon from Toyota dealers who were shown it last year in June. The dealers drew comparisons between the redesigned Avalon and upscale cars like the Audi A7 and Jaguar XJ , suggesting it will transition from a traditional sedan to a four-door coupe shape. The teaser image provided today by Toyota supports this, showing a severely sloped C-pillar and little-to-no rear deck. And while the cut lines for the trunk aren’t visible in this rendering, we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a hatch. Toyota’s new sedan, whatever it is, will makes its worldwide debut on April 5 at the New York Auto Show. We’ll be there covering it live, so keep your computer tuned to Autoblog for more. Toyota teases 2013 Venza, set for debut in New York

Toyota teases 2013 Venza, set for debut in New York

March 8, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Filed under: New York Auto Show , Crossover , Toyota With all the exciting news coming out of Geneva , you’ll have to excuse us for snickering just a little bit when we saw this press release. Yes, the Venza is as deserving of a mid-cycle refresh as any other vehicle, though it appears from this teaser that whatever tinkering Toyota has done will prove itself superficial at best. As is typical these days, this crossover-ized Camry is getting some revised front and rear lighting, and what we would guess will be minor modifications to the front fascia. We can see from the picture that the grille looks to be a bit smaller and those are surely LED’s in the new headlights. New 19-inch wheels and three new colors are probably going to matter less to buyers than the fact that “value has been enhanced” by making more features standard. This might help address our biggest complaint when we test drove the Venza back in 2009 – that’s it’s just too darn expensive for what you get. Click past the jump to read the full press release, and stay tuned for our New York Auto Show coverage .
