2014 Toyota 4Runner revealed at Stagecoach Music Festival

April 27, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

Filed under: SUV , Toyota , Design/Style Toyota has just pulled the sheet off its updated 2014 4Runner at the 2013 Stagecoach Music Festival near Palm Springs, California. Toyota is the title sponsor at the festival, and claims that this is the first ever global reveal of a new automobile at a major music festival. We’re also guessing this is the first time that the 4Runner has seen duty inside what looks like a vintage circus act’s cage . We can see from the photos (and the earlier teaser images) that the body-on-frame SUV has received a freshened look with new smoked light fixtures front and rear, along with a reworked front fascia and grille. The profile view seems largely unchanged, though there are new wheel patterns on offer. The 4Runner will continue to be offered in three trims, including SR5, more luxurious Limited, and off-road-ready Trail specification. Both 4×2 and both part- and full-time 4×4 models will continue to be available, all will be powered by the same 4.0-liter 270-horsepower V6 and five-speed automatic as last year. Other changes for the 2014 model year include a retouched interior featuring new Optitron gauges, a multi-information display, and changes in trim. On the entertainment front, there are new head units with Toyota’s Entune infotainment technology and an in-glass antenna replacing the previous mast unit. The optional navigation unit features a seven-inch screen.

Toyota TS030 Hybrid makes successful Le Mans debut during test day

June 9, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Filed under: Motorsports , Toyota , Racing The Toyota TS030 Hybrid made its Le Mans debut this past weekend during the event’s single day test session on Sunday, marking the first time a Toyota prototype has run at Cirque De La Sarthe since the GT-One, codenamed TS020, competed at the 24 hour race in ’98 and ’99. It was no surprise that Audi ran the fastest times during the two practice sessions – the pair of Audi R18 E-Tron Quattros nabbed the top spots – but there is little doubt that Toyota considers their results to be positive. After all, success in racing, particularly for a brand-new car at Le Mans, can be defined in a variety of ways. The quickest TS030 Hybrid ran just a little over a second behind the top Audi (3:27.204 vs 3:25.927), a time that is more than competitive. “We are continuously adjusting and improving the system, so each test day brings a step forward and that was true again today,” said Hisatake Murata, the team’s project leader. You can see the Toyota TS030 Hybrid in action at Le Mans in the gallery above, or scroll down below to read the official announcement from Toyota Motorsport GmbH. Filed under: Motorsports , Hybrid , Toyota , Racing Toyota has announced that it is returning to the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile’s World Endurance Championship in 2012. The car it will be contesting the series with is a new prototype that will use a hybrid gasoline/electric powertrain. We can only hope the experience will equal more exciting future models under the Prius range… The last time Toyota competed in Le Mans racing was in 1999, just before the Japanese automaker abandoned the GT-One program to focus on Formula One. We don’t expect Toyota’s new LMP1 racer to have anything in common with the erstwhile GT-One, which was powered by a 600-horsepower 3.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Though always fast, Toyota’s last-gen endurance racer never quite put together a complete race. Here’s hoping the effort produces more consistent results this time around. Check out the official announcement after the break .
