Toyota recalls 209,000 FJ Cruisers over seatbelt issue

Filed under: SUV , Government/Legal , Recalls , Safety , Toyota Toyota has announced that it will be issuing a substantial recall of the FJ Cruiser for a problem that could cause the front seatbelt retractors to separate from the vehicle body. This recall will apply to all FJ Cruisers – from 2007 through 2013 – totaling around 209,000 units. The problem stems from the FJ Cruiser’s pillarless door opening design that has the front-occupant seatbelts attached to the rear doors. Toyota says that when the rear doors are “repeatedly and forcefully closed,” the retractor could completely separate from the door frame. While there is no information about this recall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration yet, Toyota says that there have been no accidents or injuries associated with this issue. No specific fix or recall date are given, but the official press release is posted below . Toyota announces two recalls affecting 1M Corolla, Matrix and Lexus IS models

Toyota announces two recalls affecting 1M Corolla, Matrix and Lexus IS models

Filed under: Sedan , Government/Legal , Recalls , Safety , Hatchback , Lexus , Toyota The recall bug strikes Toyota again. The automaker has issued a voluntary recall of three models that, in total, represent more than one million units. Around 752,000 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla and Matrix models are being recalled for airbag concerns, while a windshield wiper issue is causing the recall for close to 270,000 Lexus IS sedans from the 2006-2012 model years. Completely unrelated to the small airbag-related recall issued earlier in the week, the Corolla and Matrix recall is caused by a faulty airbag control module that could potentially short circuit, which could lead to the front airbags or seat belt pretensioners deploying. The Lexus recall is due to a wiper arm nut that wasn’t tightened properly, which can cause the wipers to not work when trying to clear heavy buildup such as snow. Scroll down for a press release that includes more information, as well as details about how owners can contact the manufacturer directly. Scion FR-S faces teething problems, owner’s manual recall

Scion FR-S faces teething problems, owner’s manual recall

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Plants/Manufacturing , Recalls , Scion , Subaru , Toyota The Scion FR-S / Toyota GT86 / Subaru BRZ triplets are being recalled due to an issue not with the car, but with the owner’s manual: pages detailing the operation of the smart airbags contain a misprint. Although it’s classified as a recall, owners don’t need to take their cars to their dealers; Scion and Subaru will be sending the nearly 2,800 owners corrected pages that can be inserted in the manual. If you’d rather have your dealer do the Elmer’s Glue work, they will have corrected pages that they can insesrt in the owner’s manual for you. Two separate issues seem to be affecting the FR-S only, even though it is built on the same line with the BRZ. Toyota issued “tech tips” to dealers to let them know that owners have reported that condensation has been forming inside the taillamp housings. According to an exchange on the FT86Club forum , the coupe’s chief engineer declared that problem fixed after remedying a detail in the production process. Another tech tip regarding body panel issues read, “Some 2013 Scion FR-S vehicles may exhibit a condition where body panel fitting may not meet customer expectations.” It refers to complaints that panels were as much as a quarter-inch out of flush. It isn’t clear how many cars are affected, nor how many owners have formally complainted, but according to a post on TundraHeadquarters.com, Toyota is “looking into it.” Scion FR-S faces teething problems, owner’s manual recall originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 11 Jun 2012 09:57:00 EST. Toyota tops recall list again in 2011, overall number of U.S. recalls down *UPDATE

Filed under: Recalls , Safety , Ford , GM , Toyota Toyota launched a total of 13 recall campaigns in 2011 covering over 3.5 million vehicles. Those figures put the Japanese automaker at the top of the most-recalled list for the third year in a row, according to Ward’s Auto . Between 2009 and 2010, Toyota recalled nearly 11.5 million vehicles in North America for a variety of reasons, including troublesome floor mats and sticky accelerators tied to the company’s unintended acceleration woes. The company says that around 85 percent of vehicles involved in the pedal recall have been fixed, with lower volume models continuing to trickle into dealers. But Toyota wasn’t the only automaker with recall woes in 2011. Ford found itself in second place for the number of vehicles recalled this year with 10 campaigns covering 3.2 million vehicles. For its part, General Motors issued a total of 21 recalls, but the fixes involved far fewer vehicles: 455,901. All told, Ward’s says automakers issued 130 recalls in 2011, down from 136 campaigns in the U.S. last year. *Update: The expanded Honda airbag recall pushed the automaker past Toyota for the greatest number of recalled vehicles in 2011.
