TORRANCE, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2015) – The bold, new 2015 Toyota Camry has earned a much-deserved place in the most talked about sporting event of the year. Today, America’s best-selling car for thirteen consecutive years kicks off the next phase of its “One Bold Choice Leads to Another” marketing campaign for Super Bowl XLIX.
Filed under: Government/Legal , Safety , Videos , GM , Toyota Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-WV, held an all-day summit on Thursday to discuss the dangers of using modern technology while driving, during which an ad that Mazda aired during the Super Bowl was used as an example of the worrisome future towards which we’re headed. While seemingly innocuous at first glance, the ad, which can be seen below , shows a brief glimpse of a driver using the Mazda Connect infotainment system in a Mazda3 to check/update his Facebook page while driving down the road. Officials from major communications companies like Samsung, Google and Apple attended the summit, as well as representatives from automakers including General Motors and Toyota . A representative from Mazda was not present despite the company’s own currently available technology being used as the poster child for the issues being discussed. According to Automotive News , Senator Rockefeller warned the automaker and communication execs on hand that he will propose legislation to regulate the use of technology while driving if they don’t work together to implement their own standards more quickly. Michael Robinson, GM’s vice president of sustainability and global regulatory affairs, argued that his company has had distracted driving guidelines in place for 15 years since the advent of its OnStar system, noting that the technology in question has also helped the automaker save lives through automatic crash detection and calls to 911. Filed under: Budget , SUV , Marketing/Advertising , Toyota , Celebrities , Humor We previewed Toyota’s upcoming Super Bowl ad nearly a week ago, but with the big game just around the corner, the Japanese brand has now dropped the minute-long spot which will air on Sunday. As we said in that original post, the commercial stars Terry Crews from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the Muppets (mostly Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem band, as well as Gonzo and Rowlf) and the redesigned 2014 Toyota Highlander . We won’t spoil the premise, but suffice it to say that the Muppets’ goal of loosening Crews up is wildly successful. Make sure to watch through to the end for Animal’s take on Toyota’s motto, “Let’s go places.” We’ve got the full video down below , along with a press release from Toyota . Have a look and let us know what you think. Filed under: Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Toyota , Celebrities With just over a week to go before the Big Game, automakers left and right are giving us sneak peeks at the big-budget ads they’ve got lined up for game day. Audi is keeping us on our collective toes with something about a dog show , and Volkswagen is trying to squeeze everything awesome into one spot, but Toyota looks poised to have them both beat. Because the Japanese automaker has got a far more lovable dog cast for its commercial, and the one bit of awesome the Germans seem to have forgotten. That’s right, Toyota’s commercial has got Muppets. With their new movie Muppets Most Wanted set to hit theaters in March, everybody’s favorite gang of shag carpets with googly eyes is on a mission to “unborify” Terry Crews, the actor of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Everybody Hates Chris fame. Which only seems fitting for a Super Bowl commercial, seeing as how Crews played six seasons in the NFL as a defensive end and linebacker. We’re not sure that portraying the driver of a Highlander as someone who needs to be “unborified” is the right message Toyota wants to send in the first place, but we’ll reserve final judgement for when we see the full clip. In the meantime you can watch the half-minute teaser video below for a little Muppet mayhem. Filed under: Marketing/Advertising , Audi , Mercedes-Benz , Toyota , Volkswagen After Sunday’s big game, YouTube will be the place to watch every commercial that you missed when you left your seat for an emergency guac refill or, as we say in Cleveland, took the Browns to the Super Bowl. That makes YouTube the nation’s water cooler on Monday, and it’s got some preliminary stats to share in the lead up to kickoff. As you know, Super Bowl advertisers, particularly automakers, like to endlessly tease their big budget commercials in the weeks before the game, many times revealing them outright days in advance. Because of this, YouTube can tell us which commercials have been viewed the most so far, and their top five list is all automakers. Kaley Cuoco appears to have been a good investment for Toyota, as her ad for the RAV4 has garnered the most YouTube views – six million and counting – among Super Bowl commercials so far. Second place goes to Mercedes-Benz, though not its actual Super Bowl commercial, but rather the teaser for it. You know, the one with Kate Upton and the car washing , which is up to 5.6 million views. Third place is Audi’s Prom commercial (3.3M views), fourth goes to Volkswagen’s slightly controversial Get In, Get Happy ad (3.3M views), and the fifth and final spot is bookended by the teaser video for Kaley Cuoco’s commercial (3.2M views). You can watch all five in order below . The data above is current and official as of 10:00 AM EST today, though things are changing quickly.

As we saw in the teaser video that Toyota released last week, will be making the transition from Big Bang to The Big Game as a wish-granting genie in a commercial for the 2013 Toyota RAV4 . Though not as entertaining as the actual teaser for this commercial, it still garnered a couple chuckles from the Autoblog crew. We won’t spoil it for you, but a word of advice: if Cuoco ever shows up in your driveway granting you wishes, we’d suggest you be very clear what you want… and enunciate. If you want to see the commercial before this Sunday’s game, we have the video (and an accompanying press release) posted after the jump . Filed under: Marketing/Advertising , Toyota , Celebrities Toyota has turned to actress Kaley Cuoco for a little help during this year’s Super Bowl . The Big Bang Theory star will play a role front and center in the automaker’s spot for the game, and Toyota fans have a chance to show up in the ad as well. Anyone can take a photo and upload it via Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #wishgranted for a chance to have their image featured in the commercial on February 3. While Toyota isn’t saying exactly what the pictures will be used for, we imagine the photos will need to be rated PG. Sorry, guys. Toyota isn’t saying much more about the ad or what its plot line will offer, at least for now. Expect to hear more details surface as we get closer to game day. In the interim, you can check out the brief press release below for more information, or check out Toyota’s “Get In The Big Game” web page at the link below.
