Filed under: Truck , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Toyota , Humor It takes a lot to get a product noticed in today’s fast-paced world, but one avenue that’s always seemed to grab the eyeballs of consumers has been humor. Toyota knows this rule well, and has put together a quartet of spots called “Tacoma Wins,” in which the midsize pickup’s features and specifications best a number of seemingly worthy competitors. Whether it be sobbing girlfriends, a circus magician, a grim reaper or the scariest thing of all, a mime, the Tacoma looks well equipped to deal with it. Take a look below for all four of Toyota’s newest spots. Filed under: Car Buying , Truck , Toyota A report from last week indicated that Toyota will begin trimming models from its Tacoma lineup starting with the Regular Cab in 2015 , but the popular pickup will lose its first variant even sooner than that. For 2014, the Tacoma X-Runner has been dropped, though the company’s SR Package could fill the need of those looking for a sporty pickup. The X-Runner has been around since 2005 with its lowered stance, aftermarket-look body kit and bright paint colors, all of which are offered available only on V6-powered, two-wheel-drive Access Cab Tacomas. The new SR Package sounds like it will offer a somewhat similar appearance, though, with a monotone exterior paint scheme in limited colors accented with smoked headlights, but it will only be offered on Pre-Runner and 4×4 models. Other changes being made to the 2014 Tacoma include a new wheel option with black finish, a wider variety of Entune multimedia features, and the option to have the backup camera display moved from the rearview mirror to the audio system head unit. Toyota to drop regular-cab Tacoma as small pickups take another hit

Toyota to drop regular-cab Tacoma as small pickups take another hit

August 3, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

Filed under: Car Buying , Truck , Toyota Even as General Motors prepares to redesign its midsize pickups, the market for sub-fullsize trucks continues to shrink. The remaining competitors in the segment are the well-aged Nissan Frontier , Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tacoma , and now Truck Trend is reporting that the latter will be dropping its regular cab model due to poor sales. According to the article, the available configurations for the Tacoma lineup will be whittled down in 2015, which apparently spells the end for the two-door Taco. The Tacoma is currently the last truck in its class to be offered in a regular cab configuration, with the Frontier no longer offering a standard cab model and spy shots of the next-gen Chevrolet Colorado not revealing any glimpse of a short cab, either. 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport

Filed under: Truck , Toyota , Quick Spins “Oh yeah, Toyota still makes the Tacoma .” Admit it, that’s what you just said to yourself. It’s a perfectly natural reaction, but the Tacoma has been quietly anchoring its segment for years, outselling every other compact pickup without making too much of a fuss. Toyota hasn’t neglected the Tacoma – it was updated in 2012 with a revised nose and interior as the most noteable changes. In a world awash with high-value fullsize pickups all vying for your attention, the Tacoma still charms more than a few buyers out of their cash. I hooked a Tacoma for a week to see whether it still has enough to recommend it. Driving Notes The size of the Tacoma is nice. While fullsize trucks can feel a bit like the automotive equivalent of relaxed-fit jeans, the Tacoma does the Goldilocks “just right” thing for my purposes. Yet the cozy cockpit of the Access Cab I drove can become uncomfortably tight if you’ve got adults using the jumpseats regularly. If you travel in a pack, get the Double Cab. That goes double if you’ve got kids still in child seats, it’s the better choice.

Filed under: Car Buying , Truck , Work , Ford , GM , Honda , Hummer , Nissan , Toyota , Ram PickupTrucks.com has taken another look at the sales of its favorite vehicle bodystyle as part of an ongoing series . According to registration data from R.L. Polk, the Toyota Tacoma easily took the crown as America’s best-selling mid-sized pickup, with 133,477 units rolling into new homes in 2012. For comparison, the second-place Nissan Frontier only saw 50,566 registrations. We feel compelled to point out that before Ford pulled the plug on its ancient Ranger , the company was moving some 75,000 units per year. That number had shriveled to 15,662 by 2012, which was still enough to surpass the Honda Ridgeline . Interestingly enough, one person brought home a brand-new Hummer H3T as well. But mid-sized trucks represent only a fraction of total pickup sales. Dealers sold a total of 241,471 midsizers last year compared to 988,326 half-tons. That segment was dominated by General Motors with 533,814 sales followed by Ford at 478,204.

Filed under: Truck , Toyota , Design/Style The current Tacoma has had few styling changes since it went on sale in 2005, but Toyota continues to entice buyers to its midsize pickup truck with various trim packages. Earlier this year, the Tacoma added the go-anywhere TRD T/X Baja Series truck for the off-road enthusiast, and now it’s adding the Limited model to appeal to buyers looking for a more luxurious-ish version of the popular truck. The 2012 Tacoma is pictured above since Toyota has not yet supplied images of the 2013 Tacoma (including the Limited). Toyota’s press release does not list the pricing for the 2013 Tacoma’s Limited Package, but it is listed on the configurator as a $7,345 option. For this price, the Tacoma is upgraded with leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, SofTex heated front seats and Display Audio with navigation, Entune infotainment and JBL speakers. Visually, the Tacoma Limited gets its bling on with plenty of shiny stuff including 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome on the grille, fog light surrounds, door mirrors and handles, as well as a big chunk of chrome on the rear bumper. Interestingly, Toyota’s website only shows the Limited Package available on the Tacoma Double Cab V6 4×4 long bed that starts at $28,085, meaning that going all in with the Tacoma Limited would run $35,430. Scroll down for the official details. Toyota Tacoma soldiers on for 2013 with new Limited Package originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 19 Sep 2012 10:31:00 EST. Filed under: Concept Cars , Performance , Truck , Toyota , Off-Road Toyota has given SEMA 2011 visitors a glimpse at a pre-production version of the company’s Tacoma TRD T/X Limited Edition . The newest addition to the Tacoma line is set to begin production in late spring of next year and will offer buyers a 4.0-liter V6 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. An electronically controlled locking rear differential provides extra grip over uncertain terrain while active traction control, hill-descent control and hill-start assist control should help make things easier on the driver. The whole thing should breathe a bit easier and sound a bit better thanks to the standard TRD exhaust, too. BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires are mounted on bead-lock style wheels, and 60 mm Bilstein race shocks paired with TRD springs up front help give the pickup a little more flex. The Tacoma TRD TX Limited Edition is fitted with 50 mm shocks in the rear with a remote reservoir and the front end rides two inches higher than its stablemates. Lest we forget, there are also those rather loud bodyside graphics… Continue reading Toyota Tacoma TRD T/X Baja Series Limited Edition headed for dealers Toyota Tacoma TRD T/X Baja Series Limited Edition headed for dealers originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 11:30:00 EST.
