Take this story out of New York City, which involved two people going for a very wild ride in a Toyota Matrix . Carlos and Raquel Broadbelt were on the Cross Bronx Expressway overpass when they hit a patch of ice while dodging a pothole, sending them hurtling into a guardrail and over the side of the overpass. They fell 50 feet onto the road below. Despite the catastrophic accident – and the mangled Toyota – both driver and passenger walked away. The couple spent a night in the hospital just for observation. The Broadbelts’ miraculous survival has even surprised doctors, who told Dave Carlin from CBS New York they’d never seen an accident like it. Take a look below for the full news report from CBS New York . Filed under: Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Toyota , Celebrities With just over a week to go before the Big Game, automakers left and right are giving us sneak peeks at the big-budget ads they’ve got lined up for game day. Audi is keeping us on our collective toes with something about a dog show , and Volkswagen is trying to squeeze everything awesome into one spot, but Toyota looks poised to have them both beat. Because the Japanese automaker has got a far more lovable dog cast for its commercial, and the one bit of awesome the Germans seem to have forgotten. That’s right, Toyota’s commercial has got Muppets. With their new movie Muppets Most Wanted set to hit theaters in March, everybody’s favorite gang of shag carpets with googly eyes is on a mission to “unborify” Terry Crews, the actor of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Everybody Hates Chris fame. Which only seems fitting for a Super Bowl commercial, seeing as how Crews played six seasons in the NFL as a defensive end and linebacker. We’re not sure that portraying the driver of a Highlander as someone who needs to be “unborified” is the right message Toyota wants to send in the first place, but we’ll reserve final judgement for when we see the full clip. In the meantime you can watch the half-minute teaser video below for a little Muppet mayhem. Having only posted a picture of the coupe’s rear wing and backlight on its Facebook page, we have no idea what the rest of the concept will offer. If last year’s introduction is any guide, there should be plenty more bodykit and power to go along with that wing. Speaking of last year’s concept, Gazoo has released some new track footage of its twin-charged GRMN Sports FR Platinum Concept from last year’s Salon. It will return to this year’s show alongside the new car, and you can watch it drift deliciously in the new video below . Filed under: Sedan , Japan , Videos , Tokyo Motor Show , Toyota , Electric When Toyota first conceptualized a gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle for mainstream Americans to drive, the initial response was pretty skeptical. Still, through relentless engineering and solid product after solid product, Toyota has built the Prius brand into the dominant force in the hybrid car market. Something like that plan of attack is what the Japanese company is preparing for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, as well, and that attack is seeing a critical salvo fired today with the debut of this FCV Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show . Though there’s nothing substantive to be said about rumors of a 300-mile range or a sticker price around $50,000 , the FCV concept does offer a few technical details. The sharp-beaked concept makes use of two high-pressure hydrogen tanks and boasts a power output density of three kilowatts per liter. Right now, the expectation is that Toyota will have a real-world version of this technology sometime in 2015. Toyota group vice president Bill Fay showed up at Dee’s house to not only personally thank him for the purchase, but also completely paid off that brand new Camry, presenting the owner with a clear title. But that wasn’t all. As you can tell from the image above, Fay had one more trick up his sleeve. The group VP brought along a brand new 2013 Toyota RAV4 , which was also presented to Dee in appreciation. The best part is that Dee’s genuine amazement was all caught on video, which is posted below .
